Since the advent of the hybrid workplace, the home office movement has taken hold and changed the way that many contractors, corporate workers, entrepreneurs, and small business owners get work done. While working remotely certainly has its benefits, many professionals are beginning to find that spending 40 hours or more a week in a home office isn't the best choice. According to the INAA, working remotely can blur the line between professional working environments and a person's personal life.
As it turns out, having a dedicated, safe space to work privately or collaborate with others can boost efficiency and increase morale. Working in an office environment with readily-available resources like printers and meeting rooms makes accomplishing tasks and making progress much more manageable. For business owners and startups, the prospect of being unproductive at home just won't cut it.
That's where The Runway's co-working space comes into play.

If you're like many of our clients at The Runway, you're probably wondering, "Why should I choose a co-working space in North Charleston, SC, near me instead of a traditional office space?"
The truth is co-working spaces with flexible workplace options have drastically changed the way professionals work. Over the last few years, more self-employed business owners and companies have taken advantage of the savings and convenience co-working spaces offer. In the past, the only options on the table were limited by nature, at rates that seemed ridiculous, even for major companies.
On the other hand, co-working spaces offer professionals the chance to move right away to a fully-functioning, comfortable workspace in a business-centric part of town. Unlike traditional office space rentals, The Runway provides you with everything you need to be successful and grow your business, whether you're a sole proprietor or have several employees.
With a properly equipped co-working space, you can focus on accomplishing your goals and finishing your day-to-day tasks without the headaches of moving into and maintaining an expensive office. Co-working spaces offered by The Runway provide:
On the other hand, traditional office spaces often feature:
With the growing popularity of office rooms for rent in North Charleston, SC, many types of businesses and people are inhabiting these spaces, from popular companies to self-starters and everyone in between. Here is a quick glance at some of the most common professionals using The Runway's co-working office space.
Yes, you read that correctly. Remote work is often associated with Zoom calls and home offices, but remote employees can benefit greatly from co-working offices. Most remotely-employed workers enjoy having more freedom but want to use it responsibly. They choose co-working spaces because, unlike working from home, they benefit from socialization, structure, and the ability to brainstorm with others.
As is the case with remote workers, freelancing doesn't inherently mean you have a dedicated workspace or home office. Since having a home office isn't always a guarantee, we find that many freelancers flourish at The Runway. Even freelancers who have home offices often prefer to work in a more structured environment to reduce distractions and downtime. For hardworking freelancers, co-working spaces present an opportunity for more productivity and career progress. When you add access to client meeting rooms, printers, scanners, free Wi-Fi, and even a business mailing address, co-working offices are often no-brainers for freelancers.
Especially in the early stages of growth, entrepreneurs need a dedicated, productive space to grow their business and determine the next steps to success. Depending on the industry, entrepreneurial work can quickly clutter your personal space, both physically at home and mentally, in your head. That's often the first reason why entrepreneurs flock to co-working spaces â they're away from home, where they're more inclined to relax and be unproductive. Whether you're looking for a private office or simply a desk where you can work away from home, The Runway is the solution you need.
A co-working space for startups in North Charleston, SC, is a great idea because it provides a central location for full-time work, office meetings, and more. Startups are often defined by a team's ability to come together, brainstorm, produce a product, and fill a need. With The Runway's co-working office for startups, you can do exactly that.
Plus, having a co-working office space for a startup team saves money. If you've ever had the chance to grow a company from the ground up, you know first-hand how important budgets are for your business. When you rent from The Runway, you won't have to worry about expenses like management fees, insurance, power, internet, reinstatement fees, and other overhead costs.
If you own or manage a small to mid-size business, you know how expensive office space is in North Charleston. As is the case with startups, many businesses use The Runway's private meeting rooms and offices to conduct business at a fraction of the cost of a traditional office. Plus, they use the space to connect with other businesses, professionals, and freelancers who often become valuable resources. As an added bonus, co-working spaces like those at The Runway have been shown to boost morale and provide a sense of camaraderie, collaboration, and community.
Co-working and shared workspaces from The Runway are cost-effective, convenient, and full of value for hardworking people looking to get ahead. Though co-working offices have grown in popularity, with approximately 24,000 locations globally, they're still a mystery to many. If you still have questions, we invite you to contact our office today to learn more about The Runway. Until we speak, here are just a few of the most frequently asked questions we encounter.

Radford Highlanders @ Charleston Southern Buccaneers
Current Records: Radford 15-14, Charleston Southern 9-18
Radford is 8-2 against the Buccaneers since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. Both teams will face off in a Big South battle at 7:00 p.m. ET at Buccaneer Fieldhouse. Despite being away, Radford is looking at a three-point advantage in the spread.
Even though Longwood scored an imposing 82 points on Saturday, Radford still came out on top. The Highlanders took their contest against the Lancers 88-82. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Radford.
Meanwhile, the Buccaneers lost to the Panthers at home by a decisive 74-59 margin on Saturday.
Charleston Southern struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only five offensive rebounds. They are 1-3 when they can't control their own glass like that.
The Highlanders now have a winning record of 15-14. As for the Buccaneers, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-18 record this season.
Radford couldn't quite finish off the Buccaneers in their previous matchup back in January and fell 63-60. Can Radford avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
Radford is a 3-point favorite against Charleston Southern, according to the latest college basketball odds.
The line has drifted a bit towards the Highlanders, as the game opened with the Highlanders as a 1.5-point favorite.
The over/under is 139.5 points.

The city of North Charleston’s Cultural Arts Department has announced concurrent solo exhibitions of fiber works by Pam Shanley of Summerville and paintings by Katharine Morrill of Broadway, North Carolina, which are on display at Park Circle Gallery through March.
At the gallery, a free reception hosted by the artists is 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 1. The public is invited to attend.
Fiber Forms: spun, woven, and stitched – Fiber works by Pam Shanley
In her exhibit Fiber Forms: spun, woven and stitched, Shanley, a veteran fiber artist, showcases a robust progression of textile elements. Fiber becomes hand-spun yarn, yarn becomes handwoven textiles and textiles become stitched works of art.
“I am inspired by color and simple design and enchanted with dyeing yarn, using unusual fiber and incorporating fabrics into my work,” Shanley said. “It is my desire to inspire new fiber artists by showcasing modern techniques and colors and incorporating weaving into the mix.”
The artist moves from one technique to another to create her work, enjoying the physical requirements for hand-felting wool fibers, warping a loom with hundreds of yarns, and spinning multiple types of fiber into yarn.
Originally from Canfield, Ohio, Shanley graduated from Youngstown State University and earned a master’s in library science from the University of South Carolina. After 25 years in education, she retired to pursue her love of fiber art.
Shanley has been working in fiber art since she learned how to sew as a teenager. She taught herself how to weave after visiting the Folk Art Center in North Carolina and subsequently was drawn to Appalachian Folk crafts.
Primarily self-taught, she has attended classes at the John C. Campbell Folk School and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. Her fiber works have been displayed at the Virginia Tech School of Medicine Precision and Reach Exhibit, Floyd Quilt Show (Floyd, Virginia), Blue Ridge Quilt Festival (Ferrum, Virginia), Asheville Quilt Show (Asheville, North Carolina), Rockbridge Fair (Lexington, Virginia), South Carolina State Fair (Columbia), South Carolina Palmetto Hands Fine Craft Competition & Exhibition (North Charleston) and Public Works Art Center in Summerville.
Shanley is a member of the Handweavers Guild of America, President of the Palmetto Fiber Arts Guild, teaches fiber art workshops throughout the Lowcountry, and weaves, felts, sews and spins from her home studio in Summerville. Learn more about her at Pamshanley.wix.com/fiberart.
The Park Circle Gallery is at 4820 Jenkins Ave. in North Charleston. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday-Friday and noon-4 p.m. Saturdays. Call 843-637-3565 or email culturalarts@northcharleston.org for more information.

Americans are more likely to move to a new state than they have been in years. According to the latest estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, 8.2 million people moved between states in 2022, more than in any year in over a decade.
While reasons for moving vary from person to person, historically high rates of interstate mobility may be tied to recent changes in the labor market — specifically, the sweeping adoption of remote work policies in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Census data shows that more than 24 million Americans worked from home in 2022, compared to fewer than 9 million in 2019, the year before the pandemic.
Without needing to be within commuting distance of their office, larger shares of the population are free to choose a place to live based on other factors, including housing, climate, cost of living, and family. Whatever the explanations may be, census data shows that some states are far more popular destinations than others — and North Carolina is drawing in more new residents from other parts of the country than nearly every other state.
An estimated 341,600 Americans relocated to North Carolina in 2022, the fourth most of any state, trailing only California, Florida, and Texas. Inbound moves to North Carolina originated from each of the 49 other states, as well as Washington, D.C. in 2022.
The number of Americans who moved to North Carolina in 2022 ranges from about 120 to more than 34,900, depending on the state. Not surprisingly, the states reporting the largest outflow of residents to North Carolina include many of the most populous states in the country, as well as several states that share a border with North Carolina.
